The Capital Crime Writers Mystery short story contest for the Audrey Jessup award is now closed for 2008. The shortlist announcements will be made at the Ottawa Library on Wednesday April 30, 2008 as follows:

Arthur Ellis & Audrey Jessup Shortlist Announcements

Ottawa Library, 120 Metcalfe - Wed April 30, from 7 - 9 p.m.

This year the Arthur Ellis shortlists will be announced on Wed. April 30, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm in the Auditorium of the Main Library, 120 Metcalfe St. The evening will start with a panel of past winners, Barbara Fradkin, Mary Jane Maffini, Rick Mofina and Sue Pike. R.J. Harlick will lead them through a discussion on what it takes to write winning crime stories, be they novels or short stories. At around 8:15 or so, the shortlists for the 2008 AE awards will be announced for the 7 categories including Unhanged Arthur for Best Unpublished Crime Novel. We will also be announcing the shortlist for the Audrey Jessup Award for Best Crime Short Story. Please plan to come. It promises to be an exciting evening.

Audrey Jessup Awards Night

Come join us June 11, 2008 for the annual CCW Mystery Café and Audrey Awards at Biagio's Restaurant. We’ll be announcing the awards and celebrating with the winners. Be on hand for readings from the winning stories. Bring your own writing along as well, as you’ll have the opportunity to read from your finished or in-process work.

Mystery Short Story Contest the Audrey Jessup Award

Here's an early heads-up for the ninth annual Capital Crime Writers' Mystery Short Story Contest for the Audrey Jessup Award, open to members of Capital Crime Writers, and all published and non-published residents of the National Capital Region, including Gatineau, aged 18 and over.

PRIZES
will be awarded at a Capital Crime Writers event later in the spring. First Prize - $150, Second Prize - $75, Third Prize - $50

SUBMISSIONS

The deadline for submissions is April 1, 2008. 
Blind judging will be done by two published mystery authors and a literary radio host.

Your story should be:
Fiction featuring a crime.
No more than 3,500 words.
In English.
Typed double-spaced on white paper, two-sided is fine.
Without any identifying information on pages containing the story.

You must send or deliver three copies of your story
submission to the following address:

$10 as an entry fee, or
$25 if you wish your story to be critiqued

Payable to Capital Crime Writers
An e-mail acknowledgement will be sent out upon receipt of your submission.

Be sure your submission is postmarked no later than April 1, 2008.
Include your name and contact information, including e-mail address, on a separate sheet of paper — do not include your name in the headers of your manuscript.

There is a limit of one story per person.

For those taking advantage of the critiquing service, please be sure to enclose an SASE so that we can return your critiqued manuscript.
